Letter to the Editor by Richard Tomlinson
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is a motto that I live by. Holly Davis has been a great advocate for Citrus County residents since she has served as commissioner.
She has been fundamental in fully funded cyclical county road resurfacing (fiscal year 2023-24). Past commissions had budgeted for a fraction of the true cost to have a good workable program. Resurfacing projects are rated on a scale of 1-10 and sorted by density (number of homes per foot of road).
Ms. Davis lobbied for $3.855 million from Tallahassee to restore Tsala Apopka lakes, which are in her District 5. She cares about the environment and future of Citrus County.Holly Davis is concerned about development in the county. She has work with improvements to the Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan. She voted against new neighborhood development in Sugarmill Woods and Pine Ridge. Also prevention of service stations or oil-related businesses near our waterways.
In her tenure as commissioner, she has served as chair on the Citrus County Community Charitable Foundation, Medical Examiner board and currently is on the Tourist Development Council. Her interest is to develop the eastern side of the county for tourism. The tourists are our “bread and butter” but also have the potential to wipe out the very attraction they came for: the manatees and scallops. Thus it must be regulated to ensure a balance between environmental issues and also local residents’ needs.
Holly Davis gives back to her community through her diligent work in the community. Her marketing firm has donated $25,000 to several local nonprofits such as Blessings.
She considers herself fiscally conservative. This does not always mean lower taxes as past commissioners have kicked that can down the road to get re-elected. It means using the money from taxes to best fit the needs of the community. When necessary, taxes need to be raised to accomplish this goal.
Holly Davis has ties to this community and ran in 2020 because she felt her background in strategic planning could serve the county well due to growth expectations after the Suncoast Parkway extension was built.
Ms. Davis has strived to help Citrus County keep its great quality of life and reduce government waste. Holly Davis needs to be re-elected as County Commissioner District 5 to finish this job.
